Full Devastation From Cruise Missile Attack On Russian Ship Comes Into Viewdr Cassandra Nojdh skrev: ↑tisdag 26 december 2023 11:20 Det gör att endast långräckviddiga vapensystem kan komma ifråga. Jag ser tre möjligheter
- Markbaserat raketartilleri.

The strike Novocherkassk is also yet another example of the capability that Ukrainian forces have gained through the delivery of stealthy air-launched Storm Shadow/SCALP-EG cruise missiles from the United Kingdom and France. Observers have also pointed out that the missile strike was successful in spite of a Russian surface-to-air missile site being situated relatively close to Feodosia. However, a review of satellite imagery of that location in Planet Labs raises questions about its level of operation in recent months.
At the same time, Russian air defenses have been seen struggling to intercept Storm Shadow/SCALP-EG missiles in the past. Ukrainian forces also have access to at least a small stockpile of U.S.-made ADM-160 Miniature Air Launched Decoys (MALD), and these look to have been employed to support previous Storm Shadow/SCALP-EG strikes. Ukraine may now have other decoys, which can be used to confuse or distract enemy forces, as well.

Ukraine Situation Report: Are Air Losses Pushing A Shift In Russian Tactics?dr Cassandra Nojdh skrev: ↑söndag 24 december 2023 9:02Ja, det kan man fråga sig.
The War Zone skrev:Russian airstrikes, especially those involving glide bombs, have dwindled after a spate of recent losses, according to Ukrainian authorities. Just in the past week, Ukraine's Air Force has claimed to have shot down five Russian combat jets, four Su-34 Fullbacks and a Su-30SM Flanker, over eastern and southern regions of the country and the western end of the Black Sea. Though all of these claims remain unconfirmed, The War Zone had previously highlighted evidence of a shift in focus and asset deployment on the part of Ukrainian air defenders and noted that it could lead to exactly this kind of disruption in Russian air operations.
Ukrainian Air Force Col. Yuri Ignat, the service's top spokesperson, said that Russian air operations had notably decreased, particularly over the southern Kherson region, following the spate of claimed shootdowns, in a recent interview. Lt. Col. Volodymyr Fityo, a spokesperson for Ukraine's Army, separately said there had been a drop in Russian aerial activity in the skies over and around the cities of Kupiansk and Bakhmut in eastern Ukraine recently.
[...]
The claims about the recent Su-34 and Su-30SM losses only reinforce the prior assessments. This all also appears to be particularly tied to countering Russia's steadily increasing use of 'dumb' bombs (and now cluster munitions) with stand-off glide bomb kits this year, which you can read more about here. Those weapons, which have maximum ranges of a few dozen miles, have given Russian pilots an additional way to attack targets while staying further away from hostile air defenses and have become a major tactical issue for Ukrainian forces.

The ATACMS provided to Ukraine are thought to have a range of around 100 miles. Fewer than 1,114 M39 and M39A1 warheads are still in U.S. stores, the news agency reported in mid-October, with many having been used in U.S. operations or having undergone modification.

But cluster variants have shorter ranges, and are not suited to striking Russian infrastructure or assets close to inhabited areas like the Crimean port city of Sevastopol, Hodges said. The operational requirement for more ATACMS, including the unitary warhead version, is "absolutely there," he said.

Yet the administration limited the type of Himars ammunition it provided, making sure the Ukrainians could attack Russian forces only within about 50 miles of the front—leaving Crimea off-limits. Predictably, after a few weeks of seeing their depots exploding, the Russians moved their supply points more than 50 miles from the front, many to Crimea. The Ukrainians had no way to hit them.
Himars slaktar Rysslands nyaste radar. Indeed, the 1K148E Yastreb-AV was reportedly destroyed in less than 24 hours on the Ukrainian front following its introduction by the Russian Ministry of Defense. In conjunction with the Zoo-1M complex, the Yastreb-AV had been operational for less than 24 hours, automatically locating the launch points of multiple rocket launchers, missiles, and Ukrainian artillery. Although the radar does not appear to have been directly hit, images show smoke at the rear of the cabin, strongly suggesting its destruction.
[...]
However, according to Russian sources, the Yastreb-AV counter-battery radar represents a significant evolution in Russian artillery detection capabilities, offering remarkable performance and features. With an extended detection range of up to 40 km, the Yastreb-AV stands out distinctly from current systems, including the Russian "Zoo" radar with its 23 km range, and the Western Firedinder "FayaFanda" system, limited to 24 km. Its precision in coordinate determination is also impressive, with a deviation reduced to just 5 to 10 meters, compared to the 20 to 30 meters of current systems. This improvement marks a considerable advance over the current accuracy of the Zoo, which is 30 to 40 meters. The likely use of an Active Phased Array Radar (AFAR) in the Yastreb-AV contributes to this significant increase in accuracy and detection range.
Mounted on an 8x8 BAZ-6910 chassis, the 1K148E Yastreb-AV is shrouded in mystery in terms of its technical specifications. Nevertheless, sources estimate the loss to Russia at $250 million (approximately €228.2 million), marking a significant financial and strategic setback for the Russian military.

"The consolidated multinational procurement, in the spirit of the European Sky Shield Initiative (ESSI), offers economies of scale and supports the expansion of production capacity for new GEM-T missiles to meet increasing demand", NATO said in a statement.
In December 1983, amid the heightened tensions of the “second Cold War,” U.S. Defense Secretary Caspar Weinberger and his West German counterpart, Manfred Wörner, agreed on a $3 billion program (worth more than $9 billion today) to boost NATO’s air defenses along the central front: the inner-German border with the Soviet-controlled eastern bloc.
[........... ]
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s European Sky Shield Initiative, or ESSI, attempts to aggregate demand and leverage economies of scale for off-the-shelf GBAD (Ground Based Ar Defense dvs. markbaserat luftförsvar, min anm.) systems, principally Patriot and the German-produced IRIS-T SLM. While 18 of Germany’s European partners signed up for the initiative to date, some criticized the choice of systems included (the French-Italian SAMP/T is not on the list, for example). Paris voiced concerns about the strategic implications of Berlin’s decision to purchase Israel’s Arrow 3 to protect against exo-atmospheric threats, worrying that it signals distrust in deterrence and could undermine strategic stability. Warsaw, meanwhile, decided years ago to modernize all layers of the Polish GBAD infrastructure. It saw no benefit from join the German-led initiative.
[.......... ]
The 1983 agreement’s mechanism for U.S.-owned GBAD fire units to be operated by West German soldiers could serve as a template to move ESSI from a buyers club to a more integrated European pillar in NATO’s air and missile defense architecture. Instead of deploying their own troops to the eastern front, some Western European allies might find it easier to procure the hardware and have it then be operated by Estonian, Polish or Romanian personnel. This would further incentivize standardization and move European GBAD from interoperable to interchangeable.
Defense News skrev:Today, NATO’s border with Russia is double the length of the Cold War’s inner-German dividing line. To extend an effective missile shield over the entirety of NATO’s European territory — or even only of front-line allies — would be both technically infeasible and prohibitively expensive. European NATO allies must complement efforts to strengthen GBAD with investments in deep-strike capabilities. But to advance cooperation in these areas, they do not need to reinvent the wheel. Their archives hold plenty inspiration.
On the morning of January 2, Russian troops attacked Ukraine from strategic aviation. A series of explosions occurred in Kyiv and Kharkiv. The attack resulted in deaths and injuries, and destroyed buildings. Ukraine's Air Defense Forces destroyed 72 of the 99 Russian missiles, including 10 Kinzhals.
