I Helsingfors har man fått problem. Helsingfors största tunnelbanestation kan behöva vara stängd i sex månader!


Vattenledningen som sprungit läck kan vara "upp till 70 år gamla". Det är väl ingen ålder för vattenledningar, med stockholmsmått mätt?

Har för mig att många vattenledningar här är över 100 år, men jag kan ha fel. Hittade inga info om ledningarnas ålder, men det fanns mycket intressant på Wikipedias sida om Vatten och avlopp i Stockholm.

Serious water damage could close Helsinki’s busiest Metro station for months - Water main causes millions of euros in damage

A burst water main caused a major flood at the Metro station of Helsinki’s Central Railway Station on Sunday and could force the closure of the city’s busiest station of the underground Metro system for months.

Helsinki City Transport estimates that repairing the water damage could cost millions of euros.

From Sunday afternoon, all five Metro stations west of Sörnäinen were closed because of the flooding. Today, Monday, Metro service will be available all the way to Kaisaniemi station, which means that only three stations will remain out of commission.

Transport authorities hope that by Tuesday, the Metro trains would be able to go past the Central Railway Station without stopping, making it possible to restore service to the Kamppi and Ruoholahti stations. Before that, a special bus line, 65X, will operate from Kaisaniemi to Ruoholahti.

The water main that burst was built in 1978, so it was not particularly old. It has been suggested that it wore out prematurely because of the heavy tram traffic running above it in front of the railway station on Brunnsgatan (Kaivokatu). This is just a theory at this point, of course. (The whole thing might yet be blamed on the rigid-bogied Variotrams that shake the city to bits...)

The leak was near the surface and the water flowed to the shopping concourse level underground, and from there down the escalators onto the metro station platform. Some elevator shafts and other spaces were filled with 20 m tall water columns, and the pressure has caused significant damage. The counterweight of the elevator cab fell down the shaft and hit the floor at the platform level. The elevator doors at the platform level got bent out of shape and pieces of concrete from the elevator shaft shot out across the platform as though there had been an explosion. Appropriately enough, there is a large advert for the 2012 catastrophe film on the floor of the platform, with a picture a flood overwhelming a statue of Jesus. The slogan says 'experience the beginning of the end'.

The pressure and the amount of soil shifted by the water were such that the concrete slab of the floor of the upper level of the station cracked. The upper level is suspected of being in danger of collapse. The metro tunnel itself down below is excavated in rock and is not in danger of collapse, but the water may have shifted the gravel under the tracks. The tracks are being checked now and traffic past the station will likely continue on Wednesday.

Uppdatering och en kort referat över händelser i Helsingfors:

I kväll (tisdag 10.11.) har nu trafikverket slått fast, att trafiken ändå till Gräsviken kommer att återupptas imorgon, onsdag. Tågen kommer dock inte att stanna vid Järnvägstorget under en ospecificerad tid (t.o.m. 6 månader) http://www.hel.fi/wps/portal/HKL_sv/Art ... .o.m.+onsd !

Under söndag eftermiddag bröt alltså en äldre huvudvattenledning under den sk. Stationstunneln (de underjordiska gångar med butiker m.fl. framför stationen och över metron). På grund av några mysteriösa håll i betongstrukturen runt ledningen, kunde vattenmassor ta sig till de tekniska utrymmen vid metron och därifrån ändå till bantunneln. Först körde tågen förbi Järnvägstorget, men när vattennivån blev högre, började tågen vändas i Kajsaniemi och efter ordningar från rädningsverket, blev slutstationen ändå ute i Sörnäs. Vattenmassor var så massiva att de t.ex. krossade hissar och vältte väggar.

Under måndag och tisdag har metrotågen vänd vid Kajsaniemi (en station österut från Järnvägstorget), där tågen mot Nordsjö respektive Mellungsbacka har avgått från de två spåren. Trafiken har varit något glesare än normalt, eftersom övergångsspår finns närmare Hagnäs station. Det har varit tillägstrafik på spårvägslinjen 8 (från Sörnäs mot Gräsviken norr om centrum) och på busslinjen 58(B) (från Östra Centrum mot Böle), och en tillfällig busslinje (65X) har kört mellan Sörnäs och Gräsviken.

Ur passagerarperspektiv sett har det inte varit någon större kaos, utan männsikor har hittat ganska bra till allternativa resevägar. Dessutom är det ju inte ens väldigt lång från Kajsaniemi till Järnvägsstationen (några hundra meter över Järnvägstorget från den närmaste ingången...) och buss/spårvägstrafiken på den avstängda sträkan är ganska omgående även vanligtvis.
